Here is an excellent article, written to refute a very negatively biased article against home schooling. This is a very clear, concise piece, and anyone considering home schooling should read it. Article by Rebecca H. Davis, Ph.DWe home school our three daughters, and have for several years now. This has been a life style change, not just a change in education for our girls. I sincerely feel that more Christian parents would home school if they were simply aware of one basic fact:
We are not required to send our children off to school to be educated by someone else when they turn 5 years old.The State of Texas (each state has their own rules) requires that they be "educated in a bona fide manner, using a written curriculum if they are between the ages of 6 and 17". There are no state compulsory attendance laws for children enrolled in private schools, which is how the State of Texas has defined home schools. We, as a society, have become so accepting and used to the idea of public schooling that most parents no longer even consider that they have the right to educate their own young children ("young" defined as before puberty).
We feel even stronger about this than what is stated above - it is not just our "right" as parents to educate our children ourselves, it is our God-given obligation to do so. We have become more and more convinced, as our years as home schooling parents go by, that this form of education is by far the best for Christian parents to choose for their young children.
Here are several reasons why.
